COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE (2)
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
QUESTION No. 2
QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh
"To ask the Manager for a report on the proposed improvements in the Terenure/Rathfarnham area of the green bin collections?"
REPLY:
Under the Waste Management Plan for the Dublin Region 2005 to 2010 the four Dublin Authorities have set a target of 60% recycling of household waste. Currently the factors contributing to the recycling programme are the Green Bin Dry Recyclable Household Collection Service, the Bring Bank Facilities and the Civic Amenity Facility. In orderto expand the recycling programme the four Dublin Authorities have decided to extend the Green Bin Dry Recyclable Household Collection Service to include plastic bottles in the green bin collection.
The Council proposed to introduce this extended service of a phased basis. Two collection routes have been selected in each Committee area. In Terenure/ Rathfarnham the following areas will recieve the extended service with effect from September next. The routes are as follows:
Templeville Road
Moyville Estate
Whitechurch Estate
Aranleigh Estate
Rathfarnham Village
Knocklyon
Ballyboden
Templeogue
Willbrook
The green bins in these areas will be collected fortnightly from September instead of the present four weekly arrangements. The Council's contractor, Oxigen Environmental Limited will issue a revised calendar and an explanatory leaflet to each household before commencement of the service. The total nimber of houses in the Terenure/ Rathfarnham area receiving the extended service from September will be approximately 12,000. A detailed list of the roads involved is being sent to Members.
The remainder of the households in the Committee's area will receive the extended service in the first half of 2008.
