COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE 1
Tuesday, 5 June, 2007
MOTION No. 8
MOTION: Councillor C. Keane
That this committee recommends that negotiations be opened up with the traders-shop owners - At Whitehall Road shops with a view to taking it in charge and upgrading it. i.e. the public footpath/parking area i.e. adjacent to the Pines Public House and all the shops in this shopping area. (a) It is dangerous for pedestrians and badly needs upgrade (b) It is a major focal point in the South Dublin area at the junction of major roads it is aesthetically unpleasing/to the eye the footpaths etc. lets the whole area down.
REPORT:
The parking area and outer footpath in the vicinity of the shops on Whitehall Road are not in charge of the Council. However, if the traders request the Council to take these areas in charge, Roads Department will carry out an inspection to determine the likely cost of bringing these areas up to taking in charge standard. It is noted that there are signs installed in the parking area indicating customer parking only/clamping in operation. It would be a requirement of taking in charge that this area be open to public parking.
