MEETING OF TERENURE/RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE 2

Tuesday 8th May 2007

MOTION No. 4

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this committee discusses if it would be at all possible to move the recycle banks in Tymon park to the rear of the carpark as there is sufficient space there to accommodate them - and if access could be gained through the side gate to enable emptying as this is a shared entrance ie if internal area is too small - if measurments of lorry and internal area could be ascertained and available at meeting it would facilitate. The brilliant work carried out by the Parks department on the entrance to the park is totally negated by this 'eyesore' litter etc visible not alone to park users but to the multitudes of passing traffic."

REPORT:

The bring banks at Wellington carpark are very popular and a large quantity of glass and plastics are recycled at this location. It is assumed that this is partly due to them being visable from the road. Since the addition of a second plastic container and an increase in the servicing of the containers, the situation with regard to litter at the site has improved.

A meeting will be arranged with the service provider and the Parks Department on site, to determine whether a better all round siting for the bring banks can be achieved at that location having regard to turning space requirements etc.

It is proposed to expand the green bin service to include plastic bottle recycling. This rollout will begin in the South Dublin County area later this year. The necessity for plastic Bring Banks at some locations will be reviewed after the introduction of this expansion in service.
