QUESTION No. 6
QUESTION: Councillor R. Dowds
To ask the Manager what costs have been incurred installing the South Dublin Parking Strategy?
REPLY:
In 1998 South Dublin County Council commissioned Carl Bro Ireland, in association with TRL, to undertake a Countywide Parking Study to examine and assess existing parking provisions, both on-street and off-street, and to identify associated problems including deficiencies in the levels of parking provided, adequacy of parking cotrols, particularly in relation to on-street parking and the use of short-term parking areas for long-stay parking, estimated future parking demand and the implementation of on-street parking controls and associated charges. Based on thei nitial report, the consultants were subsequently appointed to develop a Parking Strategy and to review implementation proposals for this strategy, arising from which Bye laws were drafted and a pilot scheme implemented in the town of Lucan commencing in 2003.
In line with the Parking Strategy, South Dublin County Council then commissionesd the preparation of Draft Control of Parking Bye laws to regulate and control on-street parking in the areas of Rathfarnham, Clondalkin, Palmerstown, Rathcoole and Saggart. Tenders were invited for the supply of Pay and Display machines and also for the enforcement of the parking regulations for those areas. The tenders received from UTS Global Ltd. and CPS ireland Ltd. respectively were successful and the companies appointed to carry out this work, the current status of which is as follows:
To date almost €1.8million costs have been incurred.
