MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That this Committee recommends that a significant portion of development levies be apportioned towards facilitating  the extension of LUAS into this County at Rathfarnham and southwards to Knocklyon and particularly those levies from local developments."

REPORT:

The programme of major infrastructural works to be carried out under Transport 21 provides for expansion of the LUAS network. The schemes listed for the SDCC area are (a) new line linking Lucan to James Street and (b) extension off the existing Red Line from Tallaght to Citywest. There are no proposals to provide an extension serving Rathfarnham and Knocklyon such as is described in the Motion. In the absence of funding under Transport 21 or similar programme, it is difficult to see how such an extension could be implemented.
