MOTION No. 13

MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That the Council presents a full report to the committee of ongoing contacts with local resdients who are adamant that the Bring Centre on the Grange Road be re-located to within the curtilage of St Enda's Park and that the substantial budget allocated to improve the facility be generated into relocating it within the park in order to control access to it."

REPORT:

St. Enda’s Park is owned and managed by the Office of Public Works. (OPW) The Council requested the OPW to give permission to the Council to relocate the Bring Banks within the car park area of St. Enda’s Park. The OPW however refused the request stating that “the facility would not be in keeping with the ethos of a National Historic Park”.

The alternative is to the suggestion contained in the Motion is to enhance the current site. This matter is currently being investigated by the Roads Department in conjunction with the Environmental Services Department.

The glass recycling Bring Banks at this location are very popular with the recycling public and consistently return the highest monthly tonnages for glass recycling when compared to the other locations throughout the county.

It is proposed to make further contact with the OPW in this matter in the near future before any proposed upgrading work takes place.
