QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr

To ask the Manager to indicate how many units have been provided under all of the various affordable housing schemes operational in this county, to give a clear breakdown of how many units per scheme have come on stream and the average time span between initial application for the relevant scheme and the actual completion of house purchase?

REPLY:

Applicants for affordable housing apply for inclusion on the Affordable Housing List, as opposed to a particular scheme.  They can apply for properties that become available either North of the Naas Road or South of the Naas Road, or indeed all areas.  The following schedule indicates, for each development, the average time span from when the applicant first applied for inclusion on the Affordable List to the actual date of completion of house purchase:

 Of the foregoing total of 423 units , 282 were procured through joint venture arrangements and the remaining 141 were sourced through Part V of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and on tax designated sites.

In addition, under the Affordable Housing Initiative (Harcourt Terrace 1 & 2 ),  a total of 408  units have been made available to eligible applicants. In relation to Harcourt Terrace 1 applications were invited in January 2006 for a total of 193 units . Most of the sales were closed within a four to five month period, the last sale was completed in September 2006. In relation to Harcourt Terrace 2, applications were invited in October 2006 and to date 181 units have been sold, within a four month timescale, the remainder are currently being processed.  Applications were invited for the purchase of 24 x 1 bed units ( part of Harcourt Terrace 2)in January 2007 and these are  also being processed at present.
