QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh
"To ask the Manager in relation to the recycling facility at Tymon Park car park on Willington Lane
(a) Is he aware of the problems with litter and overfull containers and the resulting problems of unsightly overflow especially with plastic bags in windy weather and what measures are available to resolve this problem
(b) What plans are proposed to develop recycling at this location and in the general Willington/Orwell area
(c) Will the Manager in the current programme of recycling facilities introduce further facilities for individual residents of the area
and will he make a statement on the issue?"
REPLY:
The recycling facility at Tymon car park on Willington Lane contains plastic and glass recycling containers and is widely used by the public.
(a) In December 2006, a number of measures were taken to address the problem of plastic bags being left on site. A new plastic container was placed at the site which comprises of a cage like structure and allows users of the facility to easily see if the container is full. In addition, due to the demand for plastic recycling at the site, a second plastic recycling container was placed at the location. Both measures have reduced the problems of overflowing containers and plastic litter at the site.
