QUESTION No. 17

QUESTION: Councillor M. Árdagh

"To ask the Manager to carry out a clean up of the laneway connecting Whitehall Road West with Beechfield Close (entrance from Whitehall Road West adjacent to Tile Shop) and to examine the possibility of providing a barrow man to sweep the laneway on a regular basis as this is a much used right-of-way for the residents of Cherryfield/Beechfield and Perrystown?"

REPLY:

The laneway in question was last cleaned up in May 2006. An inspection has been arranged with a view to carrying out a further cleanup. There is currently no handcart operative working on the laneway.

The Council is aware of the continuous need to monitor and improve its anti-littering services.

In this regard a general review of the Council’s cleansing service countywide is currently taking place.  Meetings to discuss the issues involved have commenced with the trade unions representing the workers.  It is hoped that agreement can be reached on a more flexible approach, where required, to the operation of the cleansing service generally which will hopefully result in an improved service being provided.  It is not possible at this stage to state when the discussions will be concluded.  However, every effort will be made to bring matters to a successful conclusion as quickly as possible.
