COMHAIRLE CHONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF COUNTY COUNCIL
Monday, December 11, 2006
MOTION No. 3
MOTION: Councillor E. Maloney
Mayor's Business
That this Council investigate the provision of sheltered accommodation for people with intellectual disabilities who reside within the County.
REPORT
South Dublin County Council's social housing provision specifically for people with intellectual disabilities has to date been advanced through the Voluntary Housing Programme as the required levels of support and expertise for such housing are available within the voluntary housing sector. South Dublin County Council has been to the forefront in the provision of such accommodation with in excess of 30 units of accommodation provided to date with capacity to provide social housing for a minimum of 41 people with intellectual disabilites. Information compiled by the Irish Council for Social Housing and provided to South Dublin County Council indicates that the level of accommodation provided to date by South Dublin County Council through the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government's Voluntary Housing Schemes far exceeds the provision in any other county in this country.
South Dublin County Council will continue to consider applications which comply with the criteria and regulations laid down by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government for the provision of social housing for people with intellectual disabilites who qualify for inclusion in the Council's assessment of housing needs.
