MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

"That this committee expresses its dissatisfaction with traffic management in the De Selby, Belfry and Blessington Road area and requests the Roads Department to address the specific issues of speeding, safe exit for both motorists and pedestrians onto the Blessington Road and to assess the viability of closing off the exit from De Selby estate to Jobstown."

REPORT:

The NRA would not agree to our earlier request (at time of speed limit review) to reduce the default speed limit.The above concerns on traffic management will be addressed by the future N81 Improvement works. In the interim, we shall re-examine the location to determine what short term measures may be feasible to improve the existing situation. It is considered, however, that any closure of the link with Jobstown would be a retrograde step in the present circumstances. Traffic volumnes on the N81 at peak times are extremely heavy and this link affords commuters an alternative route from the estate.The matter can be examined when the N81 upgrade is completed.
